Dr Christolyn Raj

MBBS MD FRANZCO

Dr Christolyn Raj is a highly trained Ophthalmologist with special interests in the area of Retinal Eye disease.

She is a respected member of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists and an International Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Christolyn embarked on her ophthalmology training in Melbourne at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear and Royal Melbourne Hospitals. Her interest in the area of retina began well before and into her training where she completed an Honours thesis following her medical degree with prominent researchers at the Save Sight Institute in Sydney.

Throughout he training and post-Fellowship years she had the opportunity of working closely with clinicians who pioneered the initial trials of intravitreal injections that has revolutionized our management of retinal disease today. Undoubtedly this experience shaped her clinical expertise and today she offers safe, efficient and vigilant management of her patients in her retinal clinics of intravitreal injections, retinal laser and other treatments.

Her continues her research work in  the area of  retinal vascular disease and in particular diabetic retinopathy working with The dIabetes Institute in Melbourne. She has co-authored a textbook in retinal vascular disease for young clinicians and medical students.

Christolyn is passionate about medical education. She continues to be a part -­‐time lecturer at The University of Melbourne Clinical School . Her dedication in moulding the ophthalmologists of our future is evident in her tireless efforts involved in being a RANZCO clinical tutor and examiner.

Christolyn’s background in Optometry is something that will always remain very close at heart. She continues to embrace the two worlds of ophthalmology and optometry in her daily work. The creation of ‘The Retinal Hub ‘ is an clear example of her dedication to continue to foster relationships between our two disciplines.
